The Classical Variation arises when White maintains the central tension with 3.Nc3. Black captures with 3...dxe4 and develops the bishop actively to f5, leading to a rich middlegame with good piece activity.

The Two Knights Variation arises after 2.Nc3 and 3.Nf3 (or 2.Nf3 and 3.Nc3). White develops aggressively with both knights before the pawn structure is determined, creating early pressure on Black's position.

The Fantasy Variation begins with 3.f3, an aggressive and somewhat irregular move that aims to exchange pawns and maintain two strong pawns in the center. Accurate play is essential for Black to avoid being outplayed in the center.
